In 1938, the Japanese army advanced southward along the Jinpu Line in an attempt to encircle Xuzhou. Liao Guangyi, commander of the 56th Army of the Third Army of the National Revolutionary Army, was ordered to abandon Jinan, an important town on the Jinpu Line, and retreat without a fight. Zhou Tianyi, the former commander of the New First Battalion of the Guards, chose the greater good between brotherhood and national justice, and led his troops to break away from Liao Guangyi and rush to the anti-Japanese front, where they were bloodily encircled and suppressed. After Zhou Tianyi led his troops to break through the siege, he was collectively disarmed by the 31st Army of the Guangxi Clique as a "rebel" in Mingguang, and more than 300 brothers were on the verge of death. Liao Zhenzhen, the daughter of Liao Guangyi, had a strong personality and fell in love with Zhou Tianyi but never got what she wanted. After Zhou Tianyi led his troops to "defect", she went with him, and the fierce war finally shattered all her dreams.
