The film tells the story of a terrifying rumor heard by the residents of Jeju Island in 1948 - everyone outside the 5 km coastline will be unconditionally executed as a thug. This order was issued by the US military stationed there to help defend the security of the Korean Peninsula. The people on the island did not understand English, and they were in panic all day long, hiding everywhere and eating potatoes to fill their stomachs. More than 30,000 villagers had no idea why these foreign officers wanted to drive them away, and what fate would they face?
