Comedian Ivy Singer (Woody Allen) is a person who is very concerned about his Jewish origin; he thinks he has a childhood trauma, and he has been seeing a psychologist for 16 years but has not seen any improvement, but he keeps paying for it; he is a bit of an Ah Q spirit, but he is full of negativity towards life; he likes to tell boring jokes all the time. Because of his neurotic traits, Ivy has experienced two failed marriages. Ivy meets Annie (Diane Keaton), a girl who has always dreamed of becoming a singer, and the two gradually fall in love. With the help of Ivy, Annie's singing skills improve rapidly, but her parents oppose her dating Ivy. Annie gets the attention of record dealer Tony and is invited to Hollywood to record a record. Ivy goes to Hollywood to propose to Annie.
