Xu De (played by Lam Ka-tung) is the reincarnation of the wise venerable who made a wish of "not becoming a Buddha until hell is empty". Xu De and the famous doctor's granddaughter Feng (played by Chan Miu-ying) are in love with each other, and Princess Wenrui (played by Annie Tong) is also fascinated by Xu De's talent and orders him to take the imperial examination. Xu De refused Princess Wenrui's order, which annoyed the latter and directly led to the death of his granddaughter Feng.
