After two years on the run, "bush bandit" Ben Hall considers turning himself in, but then meets his old friend John Gilbert, who convinces him to return to his old ways. With the addition of new recruit John Dunn, they start committing crimes again, and before long the three of them are the most wanted criminals in the British Empire. As they are on the verge of being declared fugitives, they decide to flee the colony forever. When Ben leaves to answer for his injuries, their trusted friend tells the police about their whereabouts. The police then set a clever trap, and on the cold morning of May 5, 1865, Ben Hall is left alone... and becomes a legend forever.
