After his wife attempts suicide, Nikola, a day laborer, is forced to take his two children away from him and place them in the care of foster parents. Initially, this is a temporary arrangement, but after assessing Nikola's housing conditions, the director of the social welfare office in the small Serbian village decides that Nikola is too poor to provide a good living environment for his children. Nikola, a man of few words, decides to file a complaint with the Ministry of Social Affairs in Belgrade and walk 300 kilometers to the capital to show the authorities that he is willing to go to great lengths for his children. Director Golubović tells the audience this story of inequality through realistic and moving images. The protagonist Nikola not only measures the country with his peaceful and tenacious character, but also explores the line between right and wrong. Determined not to succumb to despair, this tenacious father embarks on a heroic journey that redefines the word "hero".
