Wen Yao (Guo Tao) is 40 years old and still rents a house with his wife Xiaoyu (Annie Liu). He spends all day selling his book "Newlyweds' Guide" to make rent, which makes him live a bit miserable. One day, Wen Yao suddenly has an idea to make "Newlyweds' Guide" into a DVD, and he will be the director. He invites actress Meifeng (Xie Na) to audition. However, Meifeng leaks the audition clip and posts it on the Internet out of context, which makes Wen Yao famous for "hidden rules". His movie also finds investors by accident. Just when Wen Yao has found amateur actors Yan Zi (Yao Chen) and Amao (Lee Chan-sen) and is ready to make a big move, a fire breaks out in the backyard.
